As flagged up in October, LinkedIn revamped the design of profiles for some key members, with a new clean, simple and modern look. As the new style profile can now be seen right across LinkedIn, it’s time to take another look at the key changes and explain how you can take advantage of them.
Larger profile photo – it’s always been important to have a good quality head shot as your profile picture but even more so now that it is more prominent. LinkedIn state that your profile is 7 times more likely to be displayed in search results if you have a photo.
Headline more prominent – your headline appears immediately below your name. It will often display a person’s current job title by default but the key word here is ‘headline’. It some cases your job title or role makes sense but your headline is an opportunity to inform others what you do. So if your job title is ‘Manager’ you should add some more detail.
Activity – all your LinkedIn Activity is now in the second block down on your profile and includes your updates. Getting active on LinkedIn including making regular updates can make you more visible than before.
Commonalities – If you’re interested in connecting with someone you can now see what you have in common with them. For example and shared Skills, Interests, Locations or Groups. This is very useful as it’s helpful to know commonalities and to make reference to them when your connecting.
Endorsements – LinkedIn Endorsements were a brand new feature introduced with the revamped profiles. You can read more about them in a previous post.
In summary, now is a great time to revisit your LinkedIn profile and up date it as required. To really make the most of LinkedIn you should get start to get active eg post status updates, join Groups and network.
