LinkedIn have improved their search function removing the complication of having to select People, Groups, Jobs and Companies separately.
The upgraded ‘unified search’ is powered by a new more intelligent algorithm which displays comprehensive search results with relevant content drawn from all the previously distinct search areas.
New features have been added to further enhance the revamped LinkedIn search including auto-complete, suggested searches, automated alerts (saved searches), and an improved advanced search.
The rollout of the new search has started and members accounts (both free and subscription) will be updated over the next few weeks. It’s a major improvement and will make it even easier to find information, locate prospects, suppliers, advisers and recruits, to research competitors and companies and to find a job.
This change builds on LinkedIn Today which provides personalised content from your network and positions LinkedIn as more of a content resource and not just a networking and recruitment site. As part of a September makeover, LinkedIn added three news stories from LinkedIn Today to the top of the News Feed making news and content more accessible. The new search is in line with this change and is another way for members to find relevant and useful content.
When Johnathan Podemsky, Product Manager at LinkedIn, announced the changes he stated, ‘LinkedIn’s search efforts are founded on the ability to take into account who you are, who you know, and what your network is doing to help you find what you’re looking for. And we’ll continue iterating on this with better ways to surface new kinds of content across LinkedIn as well as more personalised results.’
