On Monday 7 November Google launched business pages on their Google+ social network. No real surprises with the naming – Google+ Pages – or the design and features which are very close to the standard personal profile. The biggest difference to profiles is that you can’t add someone to your Page Circles until they’ve added the Page to their Circles. The biggest omission is the lack of ability to customise a Page’s web address but no doubt this will come in due course.
So what are the new Pages for? Here’s Google’s definition: “For businesses and brands, Google+ pages help you connect with the customers and fans who love you. Not only can they recommend you with a +1, or add you to a circle to listen long-term. They can actually spend time with your team, face-to-face-to-face. All you need to do is start sharing, and you’ll soon find the super fans and loyal customers that want to say hello.” Some powerful wording there.
