Great example of listening on Twitter

Most business people’s instinct when joining Twitter is to tweet about their business and promote their products and services. This is fine in moderation and if balanced with tweets providing value such as hints, tips and news and conversation with prospective and existing customers. As I emphasise in my Twitter Masterclasses – next one is 7 March – it’s really important to listen.

A great example of this is provided by Richard Peirce @rightonedesign who recently tweeted his Foursquare check-in to his BMW garage @BMWCheltenham.

The garage were listening and followed up to ensure that he’d received good service. Note that they’re Twitter handle wasn’t mentioned and picked up on the phrase ‘BMW Cheltenham’. You can view the conversation below.
